I used to think introducing someone to my favourite food places was simply about showing them where to eat. But over time, I realised it was never really about the dish on the table.
There is a different kind of excitement when you bring someone to a place that means something to you. It could be the small café you visit when you need a quiet afternoon, the neighbourhood stall you have returned to for years, or the restaurant where you always find yourself ordering the same thing.
Sometimes, the places we choose reveal the parts of ourselves we do not know how to explain.
I have found myself bringing friends, family, and people I care about to places that hold little pieces of my life. Not because they are always the most impressive or talked-about spots, but because they carry a feeling I want someone else to experience.
A favourite table by the window, a dish I grew up eating, or even a simple meal after a long day can tell a story without needing much explanation.
Food has a way of introducing us before we even say much about ourselves.
I think that is why certain meals stay with us. It is not always because the food was perfect, but because someone was able to see a small part of our world through that experience.
The next time I bring someone somewhere I love, I hope they understand that I am not just sharing a meal. I am sharing a little piece of who I am.
