I have always enjoyed discovering new places, but I have realised that some of my favourite finds were never places I searched for myself.
They came from someone saying, “You have to try this place,” or casually suggesting somewhere I would have probably walked past without noticing.
That was how I ended up at Lola Faye Cafe. It wasn’t a place I had on my list, and I probably would not have thought of visiting on my own. But after someone introduced it to me, I found myself sitting down with a plate of waffles, gelato, and a new appreciation for how people can shape the way we experience a place.
Sometimes, the best discoveries begin with someone else seeing something worth sharing.
I think about how many restaurants, cafes, and neighbourhood spots I would have missed if not for the people around me. A friend who knows my taste, a colleague who recommends a hidden find, or someone who simply wants to share a place they enjoy.
I have learned that discovering food is not always about finding the newest or most popular spot. Sometimes, it is about allowing someone else to introduce you to a small part of their world.
A place becomes more memorable when you understand the story behind why someone brought you there.
Now, whenever I visit somewhere new, I find myself wondering who first discovered it, who they brought there, and how many other people have their own stories attached to that same table.
Because some places are not found through searches or recommendations online. Some places find their way to us through the people we meet.
