A Wholesome Plant-Based Find: Dining at Greendot, Junction 8

Comforting Plant-Based Meals at Greendot

I was running a few errands around Bishan on a rainy Tuesday afternoon and found myself wandering into Junction 8 right around 6:30 PM. I wanted a quick, comforting dinner before heading home, but I really didn’t want anything too greasy or heavy.

As I walked past the usual fast-food joints, Greendot caught my eye. I’ve heard friends mention their plant-based meals before, so I decided to pop in and see if it lived up to the quiet hype.

For those looking for other great vegetarian options in Singapore, Town Eats has a fantastic roundup of the best plant-based dining spots in Bishan and beyond, highlighting local favourites that are definitely worth checking out.

The Vibe

Walking in, the space feels incredibly clean and modern. It has a cozy, minimalist vibe, with large windows that let in a nice amount of natural light if you happen to visit before the sun completely sets. The atmosphere is relaxed, though I did notice the tables are placed quite close to each other to maximize the compact layout.

If you are looking for a bit of quiet time to unwind, I highly recommend asking for a corner table—it feels much more private when the dining room starts to fill up. Also, a quick tip: the mall’s AC can be quite strong in this section, so I was definitely glad I had a light jacket with me.

What I Ate

Because I was feeling pretty hungry, I decided to order the Vegan Rendang with Rice, which sits at around $11.90. I also added a bowl of their Soy Protein Stew for about $10.90. The food arrived piping hot, and the smell of the rendang spices immediately won me over.

The rendang is honestly impressive. It is rich, deeply flavorful, and has just the right amount of spicy kick to keep things interesting. The soft texture of the soy protein mimics meat surprisingly well, and it soaked up all that wonderful, coconut-heavy gravy perfectly. It is a hearty, satisfying dish that leaves you feeling full but not sluggish.

The Soy Protein Stew was a lovely contrast. It was light but hearty, with a well-balanced, earthy broth that felt like a warm hug on a rainy evening. The tender vegetables and soy chunks made it a very comforting bowl.

What Could Be Better

I do have to be honest, though. While the mains I had were great, I have heard from friends that some of their sides, like the Tofu Scramble, can lean a bit on the bland side.

Additionally, if you eat here frequently, the soy-heavy flavor profiles can start to feel a little repetitive. That said, I saw a woman next to me enjoying their Vegan Burger, and the patty looked incredibly moist and well-seasoned. I’m definitely keeping that in mind for my next visit.

The Service and Logistics

The service was a major highlight for me. The staff were friendly, polite, and wonderfully efficient. Even as the dinner rush started picking up close to 7 PM, my food arrived in under ten minutes. The servers were attentive enough to clear empty plates quickly, but they never made me feel rushed to leave my table.

Practically speaking, this is a very accessible spot. You can expect to spend about $15 to $20 per person for a main and a drink, which is very reasonable considering the generous portion sizes and the quality of the plant-based ingredients.

You generally do not need to make a reservation, but if you plan to visit during the peak weekend lunch hours, getting there early is a smart move to avoid a queue. And since it is located right inside Junction 8, it is barely a five-minute sheltered walk from the Bishan MRT station.

Is Greendot Right for You?

So, who is Greendot really for? If you are looking for a premium, intimate dining experience or a traditional meat-heavy feast, you will want to look elsewhere. But if you need a fuss-free, wholesome meal that actually fills you up and leaves you feeling good, this is a fantastic choice.

It is the perfect little spot for a quick solo dinner after work, or a casual weekend catch-up with a friend who prefers healthier options. I left feeling comfortably full and ready to tackle the rest of my evening, and sometimes, that is exactly what you need from a neighborhood meal.
