There are meals we eat because we are hungry, and then there are meals we return to because something inside us feels unsettled.
I realized this recently after a long weekday that seemed to stretch endlessly between errands, crowded MRT rides, and small conversations that demanded more energy than expected. By the evening, I was not looking for excitement or novelty. I simply wanted somewhere that would allow the day to soften around the edges.
I ended up thinking about a past visit to Citrus By The Pool in Woodlands and the feeling that followed within me. The open air, the quiet sound of water nearby, the unhurried pace of people eating around me. It reminded me that sometimes a meal works less like entertainment and more like a pause.
Perhaps that is why certain foods stay with us. A bowl of soup on a rainy evening. Rice and curry eaten slowly after work. A familiar kopi order from a coffee shop that has looked the same for years. These meals create small pockets of stillness inside otherwise restless days.
In Singapore, where movement often feels constant, these moments matter more than we admit. Not every meal changes your life. But occasionally, one gives you enough space to breathe differently for an hour.
And sometimes, that small reset is all you really needed.
